Begin by demonstrating the activity - with a dark-green and brown crayon draw a large tree, filling up the whole piece of paper. At the meridian write in large letters "My family unit". And so, either stick your photos family photos onto the tree or draw pictures of your family (grandparents at the superlative, next your parents and you and your siblings at the bottom). Finally, under each family fellow member photo/picture write the vocab (grandpa, mother, etc.).
Now go your students to do the same. If they brought in photos they can use them on their poster - if not, encourage them to draw pictures of their family members. Students can copy the words from your poster (display information technology conspicuously).

Finally, have each student pin their poster to the walls of the classroom. Ask each pupil questions (e.m. Is that you lot mother? What is your brother's name? How old is your sis?).

Make and play with Finger PuppetsFor the song we are going to use finger puppets (use the "Finger Family Craft" canvass). Before grade, print and cut out the finger puppets. Nosotros have colour and blackness & white versions of the craft sheet - if using the black & white version, have your students color in the puppets earlier starting the vocal. So attach the puppets to each students' fingers past taping the straps around the finger - three puppets on each mitt.

Next, check everyone understands which puppet is which - say "Everybody wiggle granddaddy" - make sure y'all are wearing your finger puppets too so yous can demonstrate. Become through each puppet, wiggling fingers. So play a quick game: say "Wiggle the sister" and everyone has to apace wiggle the right one. Do for a few rounds until everyone has got the hang of it.

5. Sing "The Family Song"
Play the vocal and sing along - wiggling the correct puppet for each verse (e.g. poetry one is "father"). If anybody enjoyed the song, play it once more than.

Gestures for "The Family Song"

For this vocal students use finger puppets - cut out the puppets from the "Finger Family Craft" sheet:

  • before the song, aid everyone to put on the puppets - there are six puppets altogether, 3 on each mitt.
  • equally the song plays, students wiggle the boob for that particular verse (due east.g. in Verse ane it is "father") and sing along.

6. Play "Finger Boob Conversations"
By now, anybody should take the idea of the structures from the song, and so nosotros are going to have some fun role-plays with the finger puppets. Start model with one student. Hold upwardly one finger puppet (due east.g. female parent) and become the other student to hold upward 1 finger (e.g. grandfather). Role-play a fun chat, for instance:

Play "Finger Puppet Conversations"T: Hello grandfather.
S: Hello mother.
T: How are you?
Due south: I'yard fine, thanks. How are you?
T: I'1000 fine, cheers. See you soon.
S: See you before long.

Then you can change finger puppets and do the chat again. Depending on level, you tin also throw in a few more questions, such as, "What'due south your proper noun?", "How old are y'all?", "Where do you lot live?", etc.

Now the form tin role-play. Put everyone into pairs and set a timer to one minute. Shout "Start!" and the pairs should part-play with different puppets until the timer goes off. And so shout "Change partners!" and everyone finds a new partner for another ane-minute chat. Continue going for a few rounds.

7. Read classroom reader "The Monster Family unit"
We'll end the lesson with a fun story. Earlier class, download and print off the reader "The Monster Family". You may have already used this reader in the Body Parts lesson - if so, this will be a good review (kids loves returning to favorite stories). As you go through each page, point to the pictures, arm-twist each key trunk word, and take your students judge which family member each monster is, for instance:

Read classroom reader "The Monster Family" Instructor: Which family unit member is this? (pointing at the monster on page 2)
Students: Sister?
Teacher: Yes, right! It's Lilliputian Monster's sis. And what are these?
Students: Shoulders!
Teacher: Yes, big shoulders! Everyone, affect your shoulders (touching shoulders).
Students: (Touching shoulders) Shoulders!
Instructor: What color are her shoulders?
Students: Pink!
Teacher: Correct! (Reading) This is my sister. She has large shoulders.
etc.

Read classroom reader "The Monster Family"Get the students really involved in the story past asking lots of questions (east.g. eliciting colors) and getting them to touch and say the parts of the body in the story.
